About Me
ස්වස්ති ශ්රී
This is a small note for those who wish to get to know me and my background.
In Short...
I am a Raja Bandara, a Royalist and a Sri Lankan.
Paternal Legacy
My father Dr. Harsha Athularaja Bandara was born in 1964 at the Jayanthi Walawwa, Mandawala. He worked both in the private and public sectors of Sri Lanka for many years. In the Public Sector he held crucial positions such as the Chief Financial Officer of the National Lotteries Board for 20 plus years and as a Director of the Resettlement Authority, and in the Private Sector he has worked as, inter alia, a General Manager as well as the Executive Director of the HelpAge Sri Lanka.
My paternal grandfather, Mr. Ananda Rathnaraja Bandara, who I had a great bond with, hailed from Yatawaka Walawwa. He served Sri Lanka as a Deputy Inspector General of Sri Lanka Police. Among many of his postings, he was appointed as the Coordinating Officer of Batticaloa District during the First Eelam war, by the First Executive President of Sri Lanka, Mr. J. R. Jayawardena, where he led the coordinated efforts of the elite Special Task Force, Sri Lanka Police, Armed Forces, the IPKF and other state agencies against the brutal separatist militias within his Area of Responsibility.
(Vide Extraordinary Gazzette No. 497/28 in 1988)
My paternal grandmother, Mrs. Leela Bandara (nee Jayawardana) hailed from Jayanthi Walawwa, Mandawala.
Maternal Legacy
My mother, Mrs. Renuka Bandara was born in Kandy and dedicated her entire life to be a caring family lady. Her intellect, charm and kindness shaped me always and I am lucky to have a wonderful mommy like her.
My Maternal grandfather, Mr. Bamunu Arachchige Wijesena hailed from Kandy and worked as a government official even during the bleak hours of the JVP uprising in the late 80s despite life threatening challenges.
My Maternal grandmother, Mrs. Rathnayaka Mudiyanselage Bandara Manike, hailed from Bambaradeniya Walawwa in Kandy. She was a very efficient, courageous and an educated lady.
(Vide Lona Dewaraja's book on "The Kandyan Kingdom of Sri Lanka 1707 - 1782" for interesting details about Bandaras and Rathnayaka Mudiyanse from Bambaradeniya)
I'm always grateful to my legacy which instilled great values and an unshakeable love towards Sri Lanka, the pearl of the Indian Ocean, in me.
